Welcoming Cooper Bates, CEV’s New Analyst

CEV Team Update! We are pleased to welcome Cooper Bates as Clean Energy Ventures’ newest Analyst, supporting investment sourcing, due diligence, and market research across the climate tech landscape. In this role, Cooper will help evaluate early-stage technologies, strengthen our pipeline, and work closely with founders, investors, and technical experts throughout the discovery and diligence process.

Cooper brings a strong mix of energy market experience, financial analysis, and strategic insight. His background in evaluating emerging technologies, structuring complex energy deals, and assessing commercial models will enhance our ability to identify high-impact climate solutions and support portfolio companies as they scale.

“I’m thrilled to join Clean Energy Ventures at a time when climate technologies are proving they can deliver both economic value and real emissions reductions at dramatic scale,” said Cooper. “Most importantly, I’m looking forward to working alongside the founders who are scaling solutions and applying my experience in operations and energy markets to help accelerate technologies that will meaningfully decarbonize industry.”

Cooper joins CEV from Tesla, where he worked across corporate development and strategic finance. He evaluated energy strategies for data center expansion, negotiated utility-scale renewable energy PPA’s, and managed a renewable energy credits (REC) trading desk. He also supported financial planning for Tesla’s ~$12B energy business, supporting the growth of Tesla’s Megapack product. Cooper began his career at Oliver Wyman, advising transportation and climate-focused clients on operational improvements, climate disclosure frameworks, and decarbonization strategy. He holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering & Operations Research from Columbia University.

“Cooper’s experience navigating complex energy markets, structuring large scale commercial agreements, and assessing new technologies will immediately strengthen our diligence capabilities and our ability to identify opportunities” said Dave Miller, Co-founder and Managing Partner at CEV. “His thoughtful approach and collaborative style make him an excellent fit for our team and our mission.”
