Team update! We're proud to announce three promotions at Clean Energy Ventures: Shanbor Gupta and Matt Cohen to Investment Partner, and Elizabeth Pacelle to Senior Manager of Marketing & Platform.
Shanbor Gupta, Investment Partner
Since joining CEV in 2019, Shanbor has sourced, led diligence on, and structured deals for many of the firm’s investments, and today sits on the board of or advises NexDash, OXCCU, Aqua Membranes, Carbon Upcycling, and Evari. He led CEV’s early greenhouse gas impact assessment work, created the Simple Emissions Reductions Calculator (SERC) for climate tech startups, and helped design the industry-standard methodology for pre-investment GHG impact assessment through Project Frame. In 2024 he opened CEV’s London office and has since driven the firm’s expansion across the European climate tech ecosystem, where he is known as an empathetic leader and a trusted thought partner to founders. A well-known voice in the industry, Shanbor regularly lends his expertise as a speaker and judge at conferences and pitch competitions. Inside CEV, he brings rigor and transparency to every investment discussion, and his humor keeps the team grounded. Shanbor’s combination of technical depth, investment judgment, and commitment to founders has made him an integral part of CEV’s growth on both sides of the Atlantic
Elizabeth Pacelle, Senior Manager of Marketing & Platform
Since joining CEV, Elizabeth has become the driving force behind the firm’s marketing, leading brand, PR, events, content, and thought leadership, including the firm’s brand refresh from strategy through rollout. She also leads CEV’s platform, shaping how CEV engages with its portfolio, and creating new ways for founders and executives to connect, learn from one another, and tap into the firm’s network and resources. Elizabeth designs and runs the annual CXO Summit for portfolio company leaders, along with a range of programs that help our founders grow. Her work spans firm operations and portfolio support, turning ideas into programs and initiatives that strengthen both CEV and its broader community. Colleagues count on Elizabeth to rally people around complex, cross-functional projects and see them through. A natural connector and culture builder, she invests in the people around her with the same energy she brings to the work.
Matt Cohen, Investment Partner
Matt joined CEV in 2023, bringing more than a decade of climate tech investing experience. He serves on the boards of portfolio companies Exterra Technologies, Queens Carbon, and Transaera, where founders count on him for well-placed fundraising and commercial introductions and creative approaches to hard problems, including how to align incentives. Drawing on his experience and network, he takes a deeply strategic approach to company building, helping founders navigate critical inflection points. He has also become an important voice in shaping CEV’s investment strategy, offering a market-driven perspective that connects individual opportunities to where climate technologies and industries are headed. Within the team, Matt is the person colleagues seek out to spar on ideas, a devil’s advocate who can come at a problem from every angle, and his ability to zoom out keeps the team rowing in the same direction on everything from fund strategy to key diligence questions. Colleagues value his willingness to challenge an idea and his steadiness in helping the team land on a decision.
